Well-adjusted/successful people, how big of a role do you think your parents had in your success?

Assuming there are any well-adjusted/successful people on sw, of course. :)

I would say very big. I compare Nick Vujicic who is such an inspiration with a priest I have here (he has no leg but has arms) his parents abused him as a child because of his imperfection. He finally become someone at late 30 but we can see insecurities was planted deep within him. And I saw some men without arms and legs too as beggars here. I would say some people are very lucky to have supportive parents.

A great deal, leadership by example as both are accomplished in their professional, doctor and lawyer, and personal lives. Being able to relate to people, no matter who they are, was always instilled as well as a quest for knowledge and the support to reach goals, etc. They also paid for expensive schools for myself and three siblings, so I do credit them with helping us to grow into adulthood.

None. I was successful in spite of my parents.

@ColdPenguin: I was one of those that was a abused from early age of life. I was not supported in anything. Every bad behavior there was taught to me through my parents. I rejected their way of life even as a child. I as also very neglected by them so I think that help me to learn to live my life my way. If I had been treated like a normal person I would have succeeded much easier than I did. I was in my mid 30's before I went to college. From there I have been progressing very well. But I have had to do everything without family help. It would have been easier to have help.

@ColdPenguin: Thanks. I earn 6 figures. That is more than all my family put together.
My grandparents played a larger influence in shaping my life. I never knew my biological father and my mother lived in another state.

Hugely. I can also tie some of the less fantastic part of my personality to the less fantastic parts of my childhood. But I'm doing well, and a lot of that is due to my parents.
