Are all child abusers psychopaths?

I'm trying to figure out if my dad is one.
SW-User
Yes... All are psychopath.
If someone not from family abuses then it hurt very little but when family members abuses then it give so much pain and depression to mind.

This kind of family abusing leads to mental sickness in children and loss of self esteem .

They could be sadists too

@MemberBerries: definitely <3
Summergirly · 26-30, F
@MemberBerries: he was sadistic but I didn't think that was a psychological disorder for a whole person.. I thought being sadistic was more of a personality trait

@TheFlowerThatBloomsInAdversity: Good point

not necessarily - i am still not sure if i could term anyone a psychopath because most generally aren't..

the thing about child abusers is that most of them have been abused or experienced something traumatic or life changing in their childhood as well - you'd find that most of the abusers have had a history of their own

No I don't think so. Sick.. broken.. but psychopath is such a unique diagnosis. Often abusers do nice things for those they abuse. I think that's why the minds of the abused get so messed up. Because it isn't black and white.

GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
riiight, i'm stepping out. you're asserting quack on no evidence.
dreamaway · F
anyone that abuses a child is just fucked up. Not necessarily a psychopath.
Bean17 · 46-50, F
Good question. I have often wondered myself what differentiates just an abuser from a full-blown psychopath. Not that there's any "just" here, but psychopaths are the worst of the worst and having one for a parent shouldn't even be a thing.😁

More likely sociopaths. Psychopathy is more what you see in serial killers, people like Charles Manson.
Summergirly · 26-30, F
Yeah I guess. My dad exhibits the signs of both of those combined
Syktur · 26-30, M
@TheFlowerThatBloomsInAdversity: Antisocial personality disorder.
Summergirly · 26-30, F
Yeah I know but that kinda corresponds with psychopathy and his acts of violence and anger toward his children, for many years, to me, shows it's more than just antisocial disorder
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Does he not have empathy?
Summergirly · 26-30, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand: My dad got "diagnosed" with aspergers when he was younger and his family has a lot of aspergers in it for some reason but his dad was also considered a psychopath& animal/child/wife abuser and he also abused my dad so that definitely played into my dad's issues

By aspergers I mean he does not appear to have emotions and he doesn't understand other people and why they have whatever emotion they're having
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Unless he is behaving awkwardly I wouldn't use aspergers as the term, try apathetic.
Summergirly · 26-30, F
I just used aspergers becsuse that's what a doctor diagnosed him with, I realize that's he's apathetic but does that make him a psychopath..? I guess not necessarily

No, not all "x" are psychopaths. Some folks can be taught to be psychopaths.
Summergirly · 26-30, F
I think psychopathy is a mental predisposition though.. I think they're born that way and it's incurable
lillyd · F
maybe you should ask a school counsellor
Summergirly · 26-30, F
Nah I don't live with him anymore it's fine. He hasn't abused me since I was 15 1/2
lillyd · F
@TheFlowerThatBloomsInAdversity: I hope you learn to put him behind you and enjoy your life
