Why is liking the song, Smells like Teen Spirit, frowned upon?

People have called me a fake Nirvana fan because I say that I love that song.

They perhaps think you're just getting into them, or they were effected by that Weird Al parody, which just speaks for itself. Serve the Servants though is one of their best, another time i would have said All Apologies, but due to schmaltziness is only just barely in the top 5:)

Those people are snobs.

People take Nirvana too seriously because of the whole Kurt death thing.
NigelDoes · 56-60, M
I'll get shot down for this and that's fine but I've never understood the love for Nirvana. Kurt seem like an incredibly cool guy but their music was so incredibly mediocre.

@NigelDoes: I was the right age at the right time. It suited the "aesthetic of failure" that was the thing then. I wasn't into them, though, Primus was much more my thing.

I do remember where I was when I found out that Cobain had killed himself, though, waiting for the bus on the corner of Windsor St and Quinpool Rd in Halifax with snow on the ground. I remember being sad but not terribly surprised.

If you like the song, listen to it. If not, skip it. People will bitch about anything you do, best to ignore them.

Well, they're not idiots, they have a point, but they're not understanding what they're trying to say. So they do sound kinda stupid.

It's a good song.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
Because Kurt Cobain was extremely upset when that song got popular. He had a serious problem with his own music becoming mainstream.

This is a great question. I think it's partially an age thing. I think some people think that because you werent old enough to have been into the music at the time, you must be romancing suicide and liking the music for appearance sake. Whereas my friends remember me wearing the t-shirts so... :-)
SW-User
Yeah, it's ridiculous.
PaulMcCartney · 26-30, F
@BlueMetalChick: dude same! I wear tons of classic rock band shirts that I actually do listen to and people give me shit about it
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@PaulMcCartney: I got in an actual fistfight with one of my patrons at work because they thought I wasn't punk enough. And that really, really fucking upsets me. I lost one of my teeth last September at a Misfits concert. Don't you ever tell me I'm not punk.
Sounds like they're assuming that's the only song you know because that's their most popular one.

Don't listen to the elitist like whatever you like and tell the music snobs to piss off
NigelDoes · 56-60, M
Didn't realize it was, but it's a pretty fucking horrible song. Lol. sorry
PaulMcCartney · 26-30, F
Its alright hahaha that's just your opinion.
NigelDoes · 56-60, M
And you know what they say about opinions...:-)
[c=#BF0080]Who cares.. if you like it then only your opinion matters. That was my jam back in high school. 😎[/c]
I don't understand that. It's the song that first put him on the map, a good song. They're just tripping.
Aperson · M
That's one of the most overhyped song.
PaulMcCartney · 26-30, F
But its popular for a reason, because its a good song.
