Anyone ever hike backcountry at Big Bend National Park in Texas? I'm headed there in a few weeks and wanted to get any beta on trail conditions and ledge exposures on Emory Peak or South Rim trails.

Backpacker here. I'd suggest heading over to the Wilderness Backpacking group on Reddit. People are pretty quick to offer the deets of places they've been.

When I'm doing an extended trip in a NP I always call over and ask for the backcountry ranger. They actually get out there and can provide a ton of helpful tips.

Happy Trails.

Good beta. Thanks. Have you hiked Olympic NP? The Hoh Tiver Trail is my fav on the planet. Tough approach to the summit of Mt Olympus due to 18.1 mile length.... but amazing walking through the rainforest to get there

I haven't but it's actually on my list. I'm in California and try to get in a five day solo out of state in April and then a couple of weeks in the Sierras during September. I haven't been to Olympic yet but have heard it's a mind blower. Thanks for the tip.
Note to self. Reapply DWR to hard shell before heading up there. :)
