doctorlove.I am 72 years of age and Iran was called Persia in my young days.My intention was not to lack respect,I was referring to the times when there was peace and freedom of expression in Iran and when women could wear bikinis at the beach without being called "whores".Sadly there are many things I cannot respect about the practices of those now Islamist countries!

How sad to see these beautiful Muslim countries become Islamacized, and the extremists take their freedom away from them.

I knew this before your post, but many don't know how it used to be.

@doctorlove: It's a term used in the current vernacular to mean a more extreme form of Islam.
doctorlove · M
@Carissimi: It's a word, complete with a definition. I think you've just created your own vernacular.

@doctorlove: I'm not arguing with you over linguistics. The point is others know what I mean. Have a nice day.

Carissimi. I too remember how it was in the 60's when the Shah was still ruling Persia. It is unbelievable to see how things have deteriorated in the last 30 years,it is now nothing short of evil.

doctorlove.Could it be because they are now following the teachings of the Q'ran and Mohamed more closely?
doctorlove · M
Perhaps. They certainly are adhering to a more radical Islam today - by choice or not.

But what opened the door for these revolutions was foreign intervention, plain and simple. The Russians in Afghanistan, The British & Americans in Iran. We've really done some bungling in the Middle East. Best of intentions have resulted in worst results - in some cases. Maybe even most.

Food for thought - Iran has not been 'Persia' in your lifetime. If you truly want to help, using the actual name of a sovereign nation - instead of 'what we always called it' - might be a start. Our disregard/disrespect is a tool for propaganda. Can we all agree on that? Peace.
doctorlove · M
All of these nations have been Islamic for centuries - centuries.

Do you ever wonder why such an extreme change could occur?
