Anyone here ever try metal detecting?

Have heard good and bad things about this hobby.

Hesitating to buy an expensive metal detector but afraid a cheap one wouldn't work well. What's the best beginner's metal detector?

What about clubs? I'd like to join a group so I could learn more and in order to make new friends. What organizations are worth joining?

That's something I've always wanted to do...I'd love to search around old farms and homesteads. Have heard the cheap ones are frustrating to use because they'll pick up every pop-top and scrap of anything but with the expensive ones you can choose the type of metal they'll detect.

I bought one many years ago... its good for finding loose change and alot of junk... the brand is 'White'.. its good exercise too

I had an underwater detector for scuba diving. Found some expensive jewelry for a couple of people and other things. It was fun
