Pretty Good Weekend of Rugby

Pretty good weekend of Rugby. England look like remaining in the top three in the world, England Women defeated NZ and Scotland defeated Australia in a tight contest. Ireland won as well. The only disappointment was when Wales lost, but they did have a weakened team.
Bring on the Home Nations!

You forgot the All Blacks beating Italy.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@KiwiBird I don't know for sure but it must be fairly recent as it refers to the Olympic Sevens event and rugby sevens have only be an Olympic sports since 2016.

I hope this new proposed rule change will through. Hopefully the established rugby nations vote for the best of the game and not in their own self-interest.

@LizOwen There was a Pacific Islanders team that toured Europe in 2004 and played three or four matches against Six Nations. But then the team and the concept was abandoned. I wonder if that was because they wanted to keep to play for Fiji, Samoa and Tonga or if there was simply not enough money and opportunities.

Edit: I have looked up their results. In July 2004, they played New Zealand, Australia and South Africa but lost each match. Results were fairly competitive.

In November 2006, they played the three Celtic teams but also lost all three matches. Ireland had a big win, the other two games were closer.

In November 2008, they played France, England and Italy. After losses to France and England, the Pacific Islanders recorded their first - and last - win in the game against Italy.

@Mugin16 Not surprising they lost but what a concept. A bit like the British Lions really - but with a fraction of the money and players' pool. If they kept it up until they forged a team that knew each other, they could be brilliant.
But Wales women won their first game for 32 months.
Must have been because I was there 😀.
Got to mention that.

I have an enormous rugby thread here...

And Kiwibird and Yulianna have rugby threads.....

Nice to find another rugby fan 😀😀

@TheSirfurryanimalWales I did not even know that Wales women were playing! Thank you for that. I'm more of a football fan but nothing against Rugby. My son plays football, so I have to be interested in it.

Also, France beat Argentina (much to my displeasure as I root for the Pumas), Fiji beat Spain after being behind at half-time, Portugal recorded their first-ever win over Canada, Romania beat Uruguay while Russia beat the Netherlands.
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@Mugin16 Thank you for all that! Well done Fiji! I have a lot of time for the Pacific Island nations. I met a lot of Fijians in barracks - great bunch of lads!
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@LizOwen You are welcome. Fiji were of course expected to beat Spain handsomely considering that Spain is a tier three team and only qualified for the World Cup once in 1999.

Here is a list of all the matches this autumn:

@Mugin16 Thank you. :-)

Red roses were really good, they never let off the pressure. Defence and scrum to me were excellent
Yulianna · 22-25, F
😊 i didn't know you were a rugby fan...

I actually watched the women’s match between the Barbarians and South Africa. First time I’ve ever seen women play rugby. It was much better than I thought it would be and seemed a lot of fun
@1354swrdt Womens World Cup next Autumn.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
