I dunno. It is a skill and I have no problem with it but I prefer watching real sports, like association football.
I've never been an athletic guy but I appreciate team work and athletic skill. If e-sports become big then that could encourage unhealthy life choices.
@Pikachu It depends on the sport. I'm British and our version of football is very different to the NFL. You don't get the concussions, the brain damage and the life-changing injuries. A player might get injured but the injuries never affect their post-sports life.
I don't think its healthy for someone to do a job which involves hours and hours sat down behind a computer screen. I am not in favour of banning it and these things give people pleasure. That's fair enough. But for reasons that I've given, it's not something I like. I think we'll have to agree to disagree.
Well most of that was all down to personal preference for the game you're watching or what sport interests you.
Remember the question: Is watching people play video games professionally exactly as worthy as watching people play sports professionally?

This is what i'm interested in. Why is it [i]more[/i] pointless to watch someone play a video game that you could be playing (but does it better than you could ever do) than it is to watch someone place a sport that you could be playing (but does it better than you could ever do)?
Watching (most) professional sport is [b]just as pointless[/b] and boring as watching professional gaming.
Why?
I dunno. They're things better just enjoyed. They're things people can do. And the whole corporate thing seems to ruin everything. It all becomes about sponsorship. Money.
But "professional sport", depending on how you gloss that word "professional", includes a lot more than the shit we see on TV.
In what way? You gave two examples of why you thought it was different and i've shown you that in fact those differences don't exist. If you disagree then you can tell me why i'm wrong. If you don't disagree then you can give me a couple more reasons why these should be considered different.
Well...that's why i offered you the opportunity to give a counterpoint.
To review: You gave two reasons why you thought gaming and sport were different in terms of spectatorship. I explained why those differences do not in fact exist. In the absence of a counter argument from you, the point stands.
So i'll offer this to you again:
If you disagree that i have shown that those differences do not exist then tell me where you think i am in error. If you agree that i have shown those differences do not exist then give me a different example which you feel shows the differences between the spectatorship of gaming and sport.
Professional gamers invest an insane amount of time in being good at what they do. What’s even more amazing is that gaming is an international competitive sport for almost any game.
