@Emosaur Well, while I may be able to laugh at old stories of rags and riches, blood, flesh and bark, and all that, I know that there is a computer inside my head that helps me think, and tries to influence every last thought I think. How's that for delusion?
JollyRoger70-79, M
@Emosaur Are we talking about religion in the sense of "religious doctrine" i.e., churches; or are we talking about religion as in belief in a power beyond our comprehension (and arrogance) that has provided us with a world of beauty to live and thrive in?
JollyRoger70-79, M
@Emosaur Before you say 'bullshit' again... what is your belief about how we came to be a cohesive, intelligent species which examines our inner notions instead of only seeking self-gratification?

@Emosaur Ah.... so, arrogance supercedes all other possibility!
Why then aren't all animals intelligent to the point we are? We all started at the same point, we all lived together in the same environment, we all interacted.... Doesn't it make sense that we should all be equally intelligent - evolutionally speaking?

Oh... I forgot to add - Yes, we did evolve.... but does that negate that there might have been 'something' (or someone) that controlled or directed our evolution?

@Emosaur Now... getting back to 'religion' - that is something entirely different from there being a creator.... Religion is the way that people describe the comfort they feel in the way they live their life in conjunction with other people. Religion is Christianity, or Islam, or Judeaism or any other 'explanation' that puts a specific name to a creator AND the doctrine that the 'explanation' requires the person to follow to maintain their acceptance by people of like mind.
It has NOTHING to do with what we don't know and everything to do with how comfortable we feel just having an "explanation" for being alive.
JollyRoger70-79, M
@Emosaur I don't!! I use a label "GOD" to call that 'something' by name rather than 'hey you'. But, I'm not so presuming to think that I got here on earth because some scientist who examined the remains of other animals says that we came here by accident. Notice - science and scientists are looking at the REMAINS of animals, not the animal itself (unless you subscribe to Jurassic Park as being a reality). So there is room for error.... in fact, if you check it out, there was a time about 50 years ago that paleontologists had reconstructed a skeleton with the neck on the animal's ass... it had been that way in a museum and studied as that for over 100 years! So much for science and its arrogance! So... you may draw your conclusions based on that while I still marvel at how wonderful the living world around me f, and how insignificant I am in how I fit into it and how thankful I am that I have other beings (both human, animal and plant) to interact with. I'd be stupid to think that I have an explanation for it all.

@Emosaur That's the whole point: You are insisting that believing in a higher being than our selves is 'religion' - other people are disagreeing with that definition. They are saying that - to them - religion is 'church' - a doctrine. And I make the same statement.

@Emosaur So when are you going to accept the error of 'critters jumping up and down grow wings'? You have no idea what science is and you are far more religious in your belief than those who worship God.

@Emosaur If you only knew how little science is in evolution. Too Funny. Your belief is a religion and you don't even know it. BTW how long have kangaroos been jumping. are they close to having wings yet?
JollyRoger70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 Can you bear to read an 'unscientific' possibility?
I have often wondered why angels are always depicted with wings. But it wasn't until Ron Howard (via David Saperstein's book Cocoon) showed yellow light beings floating in a room.
As you might imagine, anyone witnessing the heavens opening and hosts of angels descending and singing a chorus heralding Christ's birth would have a VERY difficult time getting people to believe what he (male shepherd)saw. So, when people might quiz him on "HOW DID THESE THINGS STAY IN THE AIR?" His only cognitive reality would be to relate them as a type of bird e.g., 'with wings'..... and so Angels would have been given 'wings' to allow the story teller to be believed. Does it make sense?
Other angels were always sitting or appeared from behind people... but their sudden appearance - without being seen approaching from a distance would still support that the aura of light and their sudden being would have been because of 'wings'.
hippyjoe195561-69, M
@JollyRoger So you think spiritual beings are limited by physical constraints? Trying to clarify.

@Emosaur You think I am stupid yet you are the one that thinks jumping up and down gives you wings. Too FUNNY!!!!

@Emosaur What evidence is that? Please give me some evidence in support of your theory. You can't even find a fossil with semi developed wings and strong back legs from jumping.
Speedyman70-79, M
@Emosaur poor deluded soul!
