@DrSunnyTheSkeptic It's a choice of mine I keep myself agnostic. I consider myself doing so delusional. I only do as I know people take real meaning in religion and out of respect to that faith of theirs I want to take a meaning in their belief.

To me it's not odd. It's just a person going through life

@SW-User You said the other reason it freaks you out is that nothing happens after death, well believing something doesn't change that unfortunately. It's comforting to thing there's a heaven for the good and hell for the wicked but the unfortunate reality is that we become nothing but fertilizer.

I don't believe in an afterlife, but I think it just makes this life more precious, it gives you a level appreciation for this life that someone who does believe in an afterlife wouldn't really have. One day I'll be a corpse rotting away somewhere, but we are more than our physical body, we're locked into someone's memory for as long as they live too.

@SW-User I call myself an atheist because I do not believe in god, but the only real difference between an atheist and a person of faith is what you pretend. Nobody knows if god exists and nobody knows if there is life after death. There are hypotheses, some better than others, but anyone who says that they KNOW, beyond doubt, it lying. And the difference between myself and a religious person is that I admit I am ignorant, while they make up stories to pretend they aren't.

I do very much hope you're right though, and there is an afterlife. I do think it's a very comforting and helpful thought.

@SW-User Everybody's a little afraid of death, that's human. I don't believe in an afterlife, and I'm not fearless, but a belief in an afterlife would not comfort me personally.

@samueltyler2 Christianity has shifted the focus towards an afterlife.

@samueltyler2 The two don't necessarily have to be connected but they usually are. And I'd love to believe in an afterlife but not in a god.

So many are corrupt and wrong. What are the odds ALL are wrong? Maybe? But if one of them is right, it is your fault for not paying attention and discovering it. What is right will make sense, but sense to you, subjectively. It will make sense to you obectively

A lotta people these days just observe EXACTLY what you said and turn away. I almost did that when I used to be atheist, but I appreciate reading lots now

@helenS No. Just like colors do not exist. They're not a physical property of something. They're entirely dependent on the viewer's exposure to light. Just as beauty is entirely dependent on the viewer.

@SW-User It hurts me, emotionally and psychologically, to think about my dad entirely not existing anymore. My father is everything to me, he means the world, I'd sacrifice anything for him and there's nothing I'd ever sacrifice him for. I don't want him to just simply...vanish.

@BlueMetalChick the people whom i love most are my little brothers. If they were to pass, i think i would commit suicide. I wouldn't be able to bare such thoughts. I really get where you're coming from.
