Four Women Convicted After Leaving Food and Water in Desert for Migrants

The Guardian
January 19, 2019

A federal judge has found four women guilty of entering a national wildlife refuge without a permit as they sought to place food and water in the Arizona desert for migrants.

US magistrate Judge Bernardo Velasco's ruling on Friday marked the first conviction against humanitarian aid volunteers in a decade.

The four found guilty of misdemeanors in the recent case were volunteers for "No More Deaths," which said in a statement the group had been providing life-saving aid to migrants.

The volunteers include Natalie Hoffman, Oona Holcomb, Madelline Huse, and Zaachila Orozco-McCormick.

I want to join these women and do this work too.
I have to wonder about some of these right-wing so-called “Christians” who actually rejoice when people die in the desert. I don’t know, maybe they’re thinking if there are deaths it will discourage others. I don’t support illegal immigration, but it speaks to the level of desperation and hardship involved that people are willing to risk their lives. Anyone who would be happy about their deaths is evil. 😔
