I Believe In Equality

The below portion is from a book that I read in the past. I believe that these same ideals could be used to change the way people (not just Americans) view each other. What do you think?

" Some people believe that America is a melting pot and everyone should assimilate to be an American. A thought such as this raises the following questions: What is authentically America/ Do I have to become more like you to be more American, or you like me? What are we assimilating toward?

America is not a melting pot; it's a tossed salad where all of the ingredients are needed to make a good salad and all the ingredients are acceptable for what they are. The tomatoes remain tomatoes, the onions remain onions, and eggs remain eggs. We shouldn't have to become something else to be considered American. As the world changes, this archaic attitude will continue to stifle growth, development, and productivity in America's workplace and communities."

I disagree. Both with this group, and with the quote. I think that a lack of culturally integrated value systems held in common among the people of the state lead to separatism and inefficiency, both politically and socially. Furthermore, I also don't think that all cultural or subcultural groups are equal, much less human beings in general. Most groups have useful components in their cultural patterns or beliefs, and these should be amalgamated, as should the most useful personal traits. The rest should be relegated to different areas to be re-purposed to best benefit the state, or jettisoned entirely.

@Tripp93 Right back atcha! The only way to strengthen your ideas and understanding is to interact with others - take what they did right, and cut away the rest.

@RemovedUsername8862 Haha I can tell already that we shall have many debates and/or enlightening conversations in the future! Who knows, maybe we will change the world.. even if only a little

Integration is good, and individuality is good. To use Calvin Mackie's tossed salad metaphor, individually, each vegetable is excellent on its own. Putting it into a salad bowl, and tossing it around isn't quite enough. It needs the dressing to blend it into a truly integrated dish.

Which is where HeWho's ideas come in. When preparing this salad, we don't toss in everything. We trim the excess, like stems and leaves and roots and seeds and pits. They just ruin the salad. We take the best of each and make the dish perfect.

Then we add something to blend all the flavours.
