Drug Addiction

Anyone here ever dealt with a drug addict ?
dubkebab · 51-55, M
Yes,I have lots of experience with this.
14,almost 15 years clean today-thank goodness.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
Someone close to me started using drugs a tear ago and cannot stop. Am I wasting my time trying to push them into a rehab ?
dubkebab · 51-55, M
@msfancypants yeah,those 2 in particular are fierce.
One year into it you still have superpowers (or feel like it) and consequences usually need to get drastic for them to even think of stopping.My last trip to jail was the charm.The stupid judge gave me a friggin YEAR-and it's probably what saved my life,I had a lot of time to work on my self and avoid my old lifestyle.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@dubkebab Can I message you ?
dubkebab · 51-55, M
@msfancypants Anytime. I'm here to help.
The disease of addiction is especially hard on family and loved ones.
There is support available for you as well.You're not alone.
Sunflower2021 · 31-35, F
My brother passed away from an overdose. My other brother is an alcoholic. I have some family member that have issues with it. You can't help them because they won't help themselves.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@Sunflower2021 Yes. They are going into a treatment program soon. Just waiting for a bed.
Sunflower2021 · 31-35, F
@msfancypants Don't get your hopes up right away. Most people relapse multiple times before getting clean for good.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@Sunflower2021 Thank you for the information. I will pray and hope for the best.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Sure. I've had family and friends who are addicts.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@CountScrofula You are absolutely right. I am finding out that everyone is fight their own personal demons. I can't judge anyone except myself. I understand wanting to escape the pain one is feeling. I just choose to do it differently.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
finding
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@msfancypants Yeah like... addiction is a disease but its also the only disease you can get mad at someone for having. All you can do is make it clear you're there for them, make sure they are aware of their supports (safe injection sites and whatnot if they are in your area) and be there when they're clean.

If this person is loving every second of being high, that will inevitably change and it will be tragic. It always happens. And it sucks. I'm so sorry.

I’m a drug addict. I love a bunch of other drug addicts.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@SW-User Thank you for your honesty. I want this person to stop using drugs.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
I love a few. What's up?
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@SwampFlower How do I help them to get clean ?
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@msfancypants It's hard because they have to actually want to stop. Pretty much any mental health treatment requires the patient wanting to change or else it isn't going to stick. Therapy and rehab take a lot of difficult work and dedication. no one can heal if they are passive about it.

Until then the only thing you can do is be there for them while refusing to enable their habits. It's easier said than done because of the guilt trips. If they are emotionally or physically violent towards you, sometimes you have to cut them off and love from far away. It really just depends on their personality type a lot of times.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@SwampFlower Thank you so much for your response. I greatly appreciate it. The problem is...they don't want to stop. 😒
Talesfromthedarkside · 26-30, M
Somewhat hard living completely sober lol managed to avoid most of the real bad types of stuff like heroin, meth etc.

Seen and been around that kind of stuff all my life
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@Talesfromthedarkside So sorry to hear that.
Pfuzylogic · M
“Access to Recovery” a federal program that helps pay for treatment.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@Pfuzylogic I would love to work as a coordinator. What experience do I need ?
Pfuzylogic · M
@msfancypants
Back then it required a four year degree in a field that helped people as opposed to a business degree. That program changes all the time but a common theme was to help meth users and to help single mothers with any addiction including alcohol.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@Pfuzylogic Thank you.
Myself11 · 61-69, M
Don’t give up on them if they see you are not giving up they won’t either
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@Myself11 I would never give up and that is great advice. I believe it just takes one person to believe in you.
Myself11 · 61-69, M
@msfancypants I agree completely one person can make a difference
Stressedout · 31-35, F

Yes, more than one. I was in the music business for 25 years.
Yes. I’ve had loved ones who were addicted. I helped as much as I could. One I had to cut loose because I clearly wanted their recovery more than they did.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
yes. it is so hard ....
SW-User
I was an addict and so were most of my friends. Its something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I know how bad it is for an addicts family and friends too. Not a day goes by without me regretting the hell I put my family through.
msfancypants · 90-99, F
@SW-User Thank you.
