Is it really necessary for each special interest group in any society to have a nationally recognized holiday to feel validated?

I do not believe it is. However, some groups do require it because of erasure campaigns. There has been a lot of effort lately to declare problems fixed that are not, to punish or penalize discussing the existence of some groups to children, or to simply pretend everything is going well.

Nationally recognized holidays to help fight that erasure. And so for some groups it is actually rather vital to have that recognition.

Yes. Absolutely. And they must all be federal holidays. No overlap, either.
