Why are lunatics outnumbering sane people?

I think there are more sane people, it's just the lunatics are louder

We never take notice of sane people.

I'm not sure but I wonder if it goes in cycles, like an era has too many lunatics and then it goes to a lot more sane people, then after a while it goes back again...
