My Family and Friends Have Cut Me Out [I Have a Blog]

I never came out as an atheist. Around 12 years ago, I talked to a good friend about it. It was just between the two of us. He flipped shit, and then everyone found out. He went to my parents, and they were devastated. I knew they would be, which is why I planned on never telling them. It caused a great big mess for a while. What I didn't expect, however, is that it would happen again, even worse this time, when people heard that I wasn't voting for Donald Trump. Not believing in God is one thing, but not voting for Trump? Apparently that was going too far. I don't speak much on politics, and never on religion. I keep to myself. It's a shame that something like that can destroy a relationship.
That’s just extremely toxic :/ You would think the love of your family should be stronger

@MorbidCynic It's disappointing.

They are too hard on you.
My son is an atheist, I would never cut him off.

@SW-User Politics and religion are the quickest ways to find out who your friends are.

Where do you live that your family and friends exalt ideologies over the person? Sounds far too intolerant. If they no longer value you, value yourself! "To thine own self be true." WS

You’re a grown ass man you can believe in who you want and vote for who you want. Period

I wouldn’t be happy with you either

Agreed. I'm a Christian, but your personal beliefs are no one's business but yours. Same with politics.

That’s really messed up, sounds almost cult-like honestly. I’m sorry man!
ArtyFischel · 31-35, M
@travelguy01 I agree. It certainly has a cult vibe.
