And I stated my viewpoint. There was no penalty in either of the situations, but it won't matter, the game is over and it was decided in Switzerland that England was given a penalty, out of whatever motives they may have in the HQ of UEFA.

Or help out the offenses by allowing an extra player on the field but they must be on the offensive side at all times!

Of taking turns with one side having more guys than the other...

And if someone is down due to a yellow or red flag, then they can stay down without giving up a shot.

@monte3 I think Denmark would have been favourites for penalties because Schmeichel was playing a blinder. England also has the historic psychological pressure of two famous penalty defeats in the semi-finals.

@Burnley123 It was looked at by the fourth official , but presumably they deemed that the ref hadn't made a 'clear and obvious' mistake in not giving it.

@SapphicHeart Thank you very gracious. I'm assuming you are Danish, which I didn't know.

England do have better players than Denmark but Denmark is a team of warriors. We didn't have our normal physical domination. Against Ukraine, we scored with three headers but the Danish team nullified that threat most of the time. England still created enough chances to win but we had to work very very hard for them and play a patient possession game, which is our plan B. I think England played pretty in that well and they had to. Smeichel was also immense.

Italy is very different in that they have the best pressing game and the best fast passing game in international football. If the game was in Rome, I would say 70% chance Italy win. At Wembley, its a 55% chance Italy win.

They have been the best team in the most games but the best team doesn't always win the Euros.

Italy had one bad game, and that was against Spain. I doubt a team of their class will have to bad games in a row. Not with that management they have. What I find great, is if you look at the coaches of. each of the teams taking part in the semifinals, they are younger and modern in their player handling. It's refreshing. :-)

@SapphicHeart Not necessarily young but modern in terms of attitude. The old drill sergeant boss (Mourinho?) is on the way out.

Mancini especially is an outstanding coach. France, Germany and England all have bigger name players but Italy is the best unit. With such little time to train players, it's difficult to get the cohesion that club teams get but Italy is the exception. The play like Man City: organised high press, fast passing and fluid position rotation.

England don't have that. No other international team does. Southgate is good at game to game tactics though. He will have a plan for the Italians. Whether its enough, we will see.

I'm actually less nervous about the final than the semi. Whatever happens, we have now had a good tournament. Though obviously, to win would be nice 😀

@Viper Its hard to attack the middle when the opponent is doing a defensive low block tactic. They pile bodies in the middle just outside the penalty area, leaving space out wide.

@Burnley123 I was just thinking in American football, sometimes you attack their strength...

Either as a decoy... like charge into that area to get them to bite down on you and then quickly pass it out...

Or to get them nervous or think you are crazy enough to try it, so you can then fake doing it later, and they'll bite harder on a fake later.
