What's a red flag when looking at a car to buy?
I would say if it's had some major repairs at fairly low miles, like a valve job or the ECM/PCM had to be reprogrammed.

Take it out for a test drive on the highway to see what it sounds like after it’s warmed up. When I was young I drove one for a test drive with the owner in the car, when we got on the highway it started making a noise. I mentioned it and the owner tried making a little joke about it but no way I’d buy that. It didn’t sound that way when we were driving in town for the first couple miles.

@cherokeepatti Some car dealerships will take a vehicle that needs some repairs and fix it before putting it on the lot. Others will add a short term warranty during purchase and fix anything that is wrong it for free during that time. But at some point though it's just not worth the risk.

@Stereoguy This particular dealership was shady as hell. There was another vehicle that was leaking coolant from somewhere, and another that had a check engine light and two of the windows didn't go down. I drove past the place some months later and it was closed. Wasn't too surprised.
