While I see and agree with your stance on honesty, as beckyann points out, you can be honest without being an a'hole.

Example (wrong):
"Do these jeans make my butt look big?"
"No, that would be Ben & Jerry"

Example (right):
"Do these jeans make my butt look big?"
"They aren't the most flattering fit, no."
