Loss is not confined to people

Whilst losing people is arguably the hardest to deal with, the effects of losing other parts of your fundamental sense of security shouldn't be underestimated and particularly when it happens in your formative years. It is possible to become trapped in the past by things that you have never let go of because you've never acknowledged or dealt with those losses.

The acuity of mental distress depends on perspective or the lack there of with degrees of grief only being understood after aging and experience. This is why children are so fragile and loss for them can be felt in anything. Being trapped is what happens when there isn’t adequate emotional support for them during this trial so the brain has to tuck it away to deal with the problem at a later date once they’re more able to. However, this may or may not happen depending on how willing the person is to care for themselves. Oftentimes it’s easier to leave this task to others especially if outside care is what you lacked as a child. We will always seek what we lack, but we will only have what we create.
