Loss is not confined to people

Whilst losing people is arguably the hardest to deal with, the effects of losing other parts of your fundamental sense of security shouldn't be underestimated and particularly when it happens in your formative years. It is possible to become trapped in the past by things that you have never let go of because you've never acknowledged or dealt with those losses.

Well said. I would just add that with loss, it’s possible to become trapped in the past by things that have been acknowledged and dealt with but for whatever reason not to the point of being able to unlock the cage.

I live with this every day.
