From what I remember of the reasons given, the management were concerned about the degree of online abuse and exploitation that was developing and coming to light right across the Internet. This was also at the start of national government requirements for all online apps (not just EP) to take more of the responsibility to try to prevent this. EP management sent a message to all members stating that they felt they could not comply sufficiently, and therefore had decided to close down the site.
