@SunshineGirl Decades ago in my elementary school kickball was popular for PE, and in my neighborhood we also played it in the street after school.
The rules are a lot like baseball except the "pitcher" (often a teacher) rolls the ball across home plate. You can get a runner out by tagging or hitting him with a thrown ball unless he's standing on a base. Not every kid can bat a baseball, but we can all kick a rolling ball!
Marbles for keeps. I can't imagine that happening today. Even if kids played marbles, they wouldn't be allowed to play for keeps. If it wasn't seen as rubbing in losing too much, they would fear it would lead to some kid coming back with a firearm to reclaim his marbles.
@dancingtongue Yes, that was a bit controversial even in my day. I liked marbles because I was the only one who could confidently remember the relative values 😅 I think we got round teachers' concerns by forming marble cooperatives 🙂
@SW-User Yeah, we played it that way but we also sometimes played it with a football and whoever had the ball had to try and score while everyone else tried to tackle them. Maybe that was smear the queer and the other way was British bulldog and I just interpreted the games as the same thing.
@SunshineGirl No, it's like baseball/softball, except it uses a large rubber ball a bit bigger than a soccer ball. The ball is "pitched" by rolling it toward home plate and the "batter" kicks the ball instead of swinging a bat. After that, it's pretty much the same as baseball.
Standing by myself trying not to be noticed. I think my record was three years and small change. Later in High School it was going out behind where the busses were parked and getting high.

@SunshineGirl I dont entirely remember but there was like a king who gets to serve to the other three and make up rules for the other players kinda like Simon says. You bounce the ball between the squares and are out if it goes in your square but then out of bounds or if you don't follow the king's rules [like hop on one foot before passing, bounce the ball once before passing, must double bounce in the square etc]
@SunshineGirl it’s like handball but if you make a mistake and touch the ball without touching the wall another player gets to hit you in the butt w the ball .
