I'm so glad there aren't venomous snakes by me, with my dogs. Animals have no concept over what they are messing with.

It鈥檚 not fun, I had a dog bitten this way by a Copperhead.

@BackyardShaman I worked with a man who had a mini-pincher dog and it would get bit by a copperhead, and the vet said they usually don鈥檛 die from it. Got bit more than once because he lived in a rural area and the dog wouldn鈥檛 back down from the snakes. My sister got bit by a copperhead and ended up in the hospital for about a week and in crutches for over a month because the ER doctor here didn鈥檛 give her antivenom. She got took to a military hospital and had 13 needles put in her thigh to draw out as much of the venom as possible.

@cherokeepatti they have to get anti venom! People, anyway, that dog I had was bitten in the face by a copperhead two times. Copperheads usually do a two part strike. That dog weighed 80 lbs and the antivenom was by eight, so was very expensive. That vet didn鈥檛 advise spending over 10,000 on the treatment but gave other medications, and advised keeping him on massive doses of
Benadryl. He recovered but it took a long time. Venomous snakes can be dangerous.

@BackyardShaman They are robbing people on the price of antivenin since Obamacare went into effect. They can produce it for less than $300 and then charge $10k or more per vial. My uncle got bit by a rattlesnake in the 60鈥檚 abd had no insurance and paid for it out of his own savings and was just a farmer on a small farm

Are you in the UK? What kind of snake? I hope he鈥檚 all right

Sadly,,, dogs are not experts on handle deadly snake & the protective gear ( Shoes, Gloves, long sleeve heavy shirt & glasses ) you need to wear.

Most Aussie are trained from a young age on what not to do around snakes.

Have a look at the care & protection used from an Aussie Snake handler

Poor pup. Years ago, our beagle pup was bitten by a small copperhead. He recovered nicely. The scary part is that the dog hadn't been outside, so he was bitten in the house.
