I Don't Believe In Organized Religion

My neighbor:
You should really consider following Jesus Christ, otherwise you will not join him in the afterlife.
*20 minutes later* People who harass paramedics should be lethally shot without question.

Me: I can't comment on Jesus, but if he will be surrounded by people with such ideals, I rather spend eternity far away from that group.

@dunpender indeed. I have nothing against people looking for support from anywhere, but it's a personal thing. Nobody can tell others what feels right to them.

@dunpender so you trust their personal interpretation more than your own when it comes to morals and conscience?

@dunpender that makes sense, though I wouldn't compare religion with science or any kind of work. There is proof of what to do to guide a ship through a canal and how to cure a disease, or what will crash a ship and kill people. For religion there is no objective consensus about which one is correct or better than others or none. I'm not saying that makes it less meaningful, but it does make it personal. Studying may disprove some passages to bring you closer to the truth, a lot comes down to faith, which has to come from within and from own experience. You can't transfer that through rituals and speeches, like you can with guiding a ship or medical science.

@dunpender no, which is why they are interesting discussion topics, but not areas in which to claim ultimate truth or follow others without considering how you feel about it.

@dunpender I have no problem with that and I don't know for sure if guides of other religions do claim that, but many followers act as if their priest or minister knows what's best for them.
