Take the supernatural out and there's some good moral codes in them all

The stepping stone to peace is allowing other to have their opinions. I happen to believe but don't fault anyone who does not.

The pretentious atheists bore me, just as much as the judgemental religious people. As far as I'm concerned, I don't care for either. If you don't believe in God, Heaven, the soul or anything of that nature, great let's eat cake, but if on top of that you feel the need to shit on anyone who does, I'm suddenly less interested in them as a person.
Just how religious people feel the need to impose their ways, it isn't cool when anyone else does it too.
I've seen both.

@OggggO What does your deflection have to do with anything being discussed here?

@OggggO atheism has xyz qualities

Atheism has no ‘qualities' (whatever you mean by that is obscure)

Atheists have no gods.

There’s nothing else to it.

I have no gods.

I’m an atheist.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@newjaninev2 Wow, you literally did again what I explained you were doing, and it's somehow my fault.
Mindful · 56-60, F
I am being sincere. If you don’t believe in spiritual existence, how do you refer or reference that which is in existence before death? And is connected to emotion, (not in the same weight for all, but some form of thought and mixture of hormones and emotion, )and even not believing is a thought with energy as well. What do you call your... personal energy and existence? You don’t call it spiritual?
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User if you have ever held someone’s hand when they die, you feel a loss of energy. The loss of life. It is mind boggling. When you meet people, they exude different types of energy. Many people refer to that as their spirit. I’m asking what or how do you refer to a person who you “feel” or get different energy from. I am trying not to use the word “spirit” here. I suppose one could call it personality. But .... I guess it doesn’t seem the same thing to me.
SW-User
@Mindful Oh, you're arguing for the existence of spirit I think. Maybe you can create a separate post with all your thoughts on the matter.
Mindful · 56-60, F
Nope. I was asking you what you call it, but I suppose you don’t believe in it— at all. @SW-User
SW-User
Yes if they are being better people it's good, if it helps them in their spiritual life too. That's something totally personal.
SW-User
@MsAnnThropy Too vague for me to answer.
@SW-User 😢
SW-User
@MsAnnThropy I need context.
religion does do some good even if people want to keep ridiculing people who are religious. it has turned a lot of peoples lives around, and helped out a lot of people who have had severe depression by focusing on other things than their own lives. i dont like people who harass people who believe in religion and dont like the hyper religious who attack people for not believing what they believe. both sides are the extremes.
SW-User
@undetermined Insightful. Their feuding is unwelcome.
mainvane · 61-69, M
Are you familiar with Pascal's Wager?
SW-User
@mainvane Yes. It's a good example of false deduction.
tenente · 100+, M
atheist here. can confirm: I seek peace and not to ridicule others
I’ve seen how faith has helped some people survive very difficult times and I would never dismiss their experiences. But it is a very personal thing. I wish both sides would respect each other’s perspectives. I would never try to dissuade anyone from their religious beliefs and likewise, I appreciate those who don’t proselytize to me. 😔

@bijouxbroussard
Well put. I envy people their faith, especially at times like these. If it gives them peace, strength and comfort then good luck to them. I'm pleased to see what their belief does for them and can discuss things with them as long, as they don't start preaching to me.
Piper · 61-69, F
I would not ridicule anyone either, simply for their belief in a creator. There is never proof, of course, for faith in a God...or that the consciousness unique to us involves a soul.
