Back in the 80s for those who are old enough to remember.

There was a lot of fear that AIDS was as easy to contract as Corona is. But it was not that easy to get. AIDS was also fatal while Corona doesn't kill everyone who gets it.

@graphite Well today look at the results. A lot of people who have AIDS now have lived 10 years or more in 2020. 🙂

@Zonuss Freddie Mercury died probably 2-3 years before the treatments were ready. Had he had a little more time, he'd probably still be here. 😥
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I may be wrong, but from what I have read, people were actually afraid of AIDS. Part of the worldwide problem now is most people think they are either magically exempt from coronavirus or that this is just something cooked up by the media or the illuminati and aim to show they won't be pushed around.

@fairefoutre Not sure if serious...
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@MarkPaul Yes they were terrified. 🙂
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
Yes. It first came to my attention when the actor Rock Hudson died from AIDS.
From a local point of view when HIV/AIDS was first heard about in the news many Black people in my country thought it was a White person's disease and they didn't need to worry about it. That soon changed. It's weird the things us Humans sometimes bluff ourselves about.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Wraithorn And now it's a non-issue. So anyway. 🙂
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@Zonuss Unfortunately it is still an issue in Africa. A rather big one.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Wraithorn Well not in the US. We handle our business here.
curiosi · 61-69, F
They had no idea what was going on, how it was transmitted etc. Scary times.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@curiosi Yes it was.
Lee124 · F
Yes, I remember it well. Also, in the 80's the misconception was that it was a gay disease and could only be sexually transmitted and since I was neither.🤷🏻‍♀️
Lee124 · F
@Zonuss Yep, misconceptions. You would think with technology and improved communications that countries would have handled this outbreak better, but alas, not so. 😔
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Lee124 It's not that simple unless the cure is revealed.
Lee124 · F
@Zonuss I get that. It's not so much the government and authorities I'm referring to, though they are accountable to a degree, but the mindsets of some people. The ignorance and sheer lack of common sense is mind boggling. They only start paying attention when they or someone close to them are infected and or dies.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
I don't remember it shutting down an economy

but yeah, I remember the panic
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Pretzel It wasn't an economic issue.🙂
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Zonuss weird how we've gone through so many flus and other diseases and we haven't done this kind of response since the spanish flu
monkeysdevil007 · 46-50, M
Was that when they banned homosexuals from doing the jiggy jig with bats ?
Zonuss · 41-45, M
calicuz · 51-55, M
Yes, I remember. For a time, people were worried they could get AIDS from a toilet seat...lol...
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@calicuz Or kissing. 🤭
Budwick · 70-79, M
Yeah, but I was never gay, so I wasn't worried about getting it.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Budwick Well at least now you know it's not just a gay disease. Dumbo.🤭
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Zonuss I know, right?
Anyone could have it.
Anyone dabbling in the casual sex you promote could have it.
