People were wearing masks on the bus

I still wear one because I don't want to catch anything else while I am recovering from an injury.

In crowds I do. My mind tells me to be safe and I pay attention to it.

If you're in the USA, and depending on where you live, what you are forced to do, is quite different from what you should do.

If you're in a state experiencing an outbreak, and less than 30% of people are vaccinated, would you get on a bus, without mask protection, even if you're not forced to?

Sounds like a sensible choice...to me. There has never been a statewide mask mandate where I live, and many chose not to wear one. Even when the COVID-19 virus deaths and hospitalizations were at the highest and businesses politely "required" them, many people would not wear them.

A lot of people though, have and are still doing so in indoor public places.

It's their choice as an individual 🤷‍♀️.

Where? In London the TFL says you still have to even though the government says you don't.

I will have one with me 'just in case', I've been wearing it for other people's peace of mind rather than anything else.
