All excellent. Jackson and Thurber are favorites of mine.

@Mamapolo2016 I like Thurber. "The Night the Ghost Got In" and "The Night the Bed fell" are classics, in my opinion!

I've read The Lottery a few times. I read The Most Dangerous Game a long time ago, and it's probably worth a re-reading.

I have not read the others ,although it is possible that I read the Thurber one and simply do not remember the title. I probably have not read anything by Thurber since I was in high school, where I actually was in a play he co-authored, "The Male Animal".

@ProfessorPlum77 need a laugh so just pulled up “The Catbird Seat”… as an FYI, there is a restaurant in Nashville with that name.

@NewRaven I hope you enjoy the story.
I wonder if the proprietor is a Thurber fan?

"The Pearl" by John Steinbeck. 👍👍❤️💔

@Montanaman Another excellent selection. Isn't that a novelle, though?

I’ve read the middle three, good stories, will have to check out the other two. “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe is one of my favorites though to add to your suggestion list.
