Did you ever read "The Old Man and the Sea?"

We read it as a class in high school. The ending disappointed me.

I enjoyed it, but it left me wondering why Hemingway was rated so highly. I'm not saying it wasn't good, but I didn't see a pulitzer in there. I didn't see any magic in the writing. It was pretty basic, really. Someone said, 'I believe people are more in love with his legend, rather than his writing.' It's often true of musicians and artists as well.
I also think James Joyce is an amazing literary figure but that Ulysses was seriously overrated.

@Abstraction As you said, maybe due to his reputation.

No but some books have disappointed me at the end. But I've always been left wondering...like in The Thornbirds

Yep. I read it in high school for a book report.
I did

I don’t remember being disappointed by the ending.
I remember feeling frustrated by what was happening throughout

@Ghostinthemachine OK. Maybe if I was older I would have appreciated it, more.
@ProfessorPlum77 maybe, have you seen the movie with Spencer Tracy?

@Ghostinthemachine I don't remember.
