It’s so sad when your favorite fiction author passes away

I know exactly what you mean. When Robert A Heinlein died, I went back and read all my favourite books of his, including his collections of short stories. I needed those characters, to help him live again for me.

My heart shattered when I heard Shel Silverstien had died.

I bet it can be too sad, which is why i pick dead authors to begin with to be faves ....:)

Yes. I was sad when Robert B Parker passed away. I had looked forward to his Spenser and Jesse Stone novels.
