Sundown Towns still exist....

Is this 1950?

Shall we call Georgia a Sundown State? Maybe we should. This was in broad daylight...under the false pretense of law.

DSU, state leaders 'incensed' after team bus stopped, searched in Georgia

Delaware State University students received an education about potential racial profiling and questionable law enforcement practices, with a charter bus traveling through Georgia as their classroom.

It’s certain to be a lesson they’ll long remember, but its occurrence has raised eyebrows well beyond the DSU campus in Dover.

Its women’s lacrosse team was traveling north on I-95 in Liberty County, Georgia, southwest of Savannah, on April 20. The Hornets were returning home after playing their final game of the season at Stetson University in Deland, Florida, on April 19.

Bus driver Tim Jones was initially told he was improperly traveling in the left lane when the bus was pulled over, according to DSU’s student publication The Hornet Newspaper and its website thehornetonline.com. The incident was first detailed there in a story that published Friday written by Sydney Anderson, a sophomore lacrosse player who was on the bus.

Video accompanying the story taken by DSU player Saniya Craft shows an officer saying, “If there is anything in y’all’s luggage, we’re probably gonna find it, OK? I’m not looking for a little bit of marijuana but I’m pretty sure you guys’ chaperones are probably gonna be disappointed in you if we find any.”

By that time, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputies had begun removing players’ bags from the vehicle’s cargo bay to search after asking Jones to open it. Police had a drug-sniffing dog at the scene.

Deputies knew those on board were on a lacrosse team.

“If there is something in there that’s questionable,” the deputy speaking on the bus said, “please tell me now, because if we find it, guess what? We’re not gonna be able to help you.”

The law enforcement personnel on and outside the bus were white in photos and video accompanying thehornetonline.com’s account. Most, but not all, of the players and coaches on the bus were Black......

@ImpeccablyImperfect The world is passing away. It is but a corpse. A nightmare. An abberation. Better things will follow. Either way, there are fates worse than death. There is more to reality than meets our limited eyes, in my option.

Either way, I am glad this life will end one day.
@GeistInTheMachine I be soft.

Things haven’t changed much it’s just they have become more emboldened.

@JustGoneNow The people in charge of the GOP have been working since Brown vs. board of ed. to reverse it. Trump made that more possible than it ever was. Now they are able t o express how they have felt all along. They are the minority and not the majority....but they have gathered the power.

@JustGoneNow I just listen to the police scanner at night. Same patrolman/deputies are pulling over “suspicious “ vehicles, do a license and registration check, let the dog sniff around them then let them go. You can tell by the names what’s going on.
@JaggedLittlePill @SageWanderer The fact that this is news is progress. I’m not saying that it’s not painstakingly slow and three steps forward always with two steps back. But progress is progress… as long as we continue to push forward and appeal for people (majority,) to listen to their better angels.

This stuff makes me so sad. Sad and angry.

Lincoln should have let the South go. We would be more integrated and stable if he had. Forced unity is false unity. Unity is code for enforced dysfunction.

Diversity is only a strength if people are allowed to be.

@JaggedLittlePill Slavery was not sustainable.

Also, Lincoln did not care about slavery that much. He cared more about preserving the Union on his watch.

I believe he was misguided. He was but a man of his age.

What is sad is that Americans are asshats who can't nuance their way out of a paper bag, in part because we are so indoctrinated and kept stupid on purpose. We are among the most controllable people on this sad planet.
@GeistInTheMachine I’m a libertarian, so many things about Lincoln disturbed me. I think all slavery is and was abhorrent but Lincoln was not the savior people make him out to be. You could argue he caused the civil war and possibly even the discussion of succession to begin with.
@GeistInTheMachine he did not believe in equality at all. It’s recorded.
