Smoking is bad for the smoker and also the second hand smoke fer others I am allergic to nicotine so it greatly effects me with the nicotine that is released and also allergic to 2 things in cigarette smoke so it effects my allergies bad. Second hand smoke is worse than the smokers effect.

You have a great point but back in the earlier days smoking was advertised as a cool thing to do. So if you want to point fingers, you should start first with the big tabacoo companies.

A significant amount of the cost of cigs is taxes, that go into the healthcare system, accounting for their likely increased demand of it. You'd have first to cut those prices, and by doing so you'll end up creating *more* smokers and not less.

Smokers by definition don't care about the long term, threatening them with the prospect of expensive healthcare in the long run won't impact their will to continue smoking anywhere as much as suddenly making cigs cheaper.
