I Have a Question

When u r texting with someone on here and all of a sudden they stop texting for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then they text u and u start the conversation up again, but then they're gone yet again. Is that acceptable or rude behavior?
That's called life...

Not everyone is able to drop everything for your every message. Just sit and wait for a reply or wander off and do something of your own for a while. They will respond as and when they get the time.

It's nothing personal, nor is it rude, it's just how life on SW rolls.

I have the lowest standards for messaging because I’m often slow with my own responses. I don’t think it’s rude unless you both dedicated a certain time for messaging
That’s totally normal. You don’t know what that person has going on.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I know people have real lives and responsibilities here.
Phire1 · 51-55, F
This one guy I was chatting with for a couple of mths eventually said to me in a chat, "pause" then he'd say something... then say, "double pause".... then he'd say something else... so on... it was weird! Like he was counting the SECONDS to my replies. wtf?

So anyhow, lol.... No, it's not rude. As some have said, people have lives as well as other friends, etc., work, so on.

@Phire1 Thats just the chance you take when talking to people here. Some people just pop on every once in a while.
Phire1 · 51-55, F
@Keepitsimple Yep.
And this site is not my 'go-to' site.
It's not that I don't care about people here
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
Agreed. I don’t deal with high maintenance people in real life and I definitely don’t feel like dealing with them here lol @Keepitsimple

It happens. people get busy. something pops up. A lot of people are on their phone so they are still going about their daily business while on SW.
SW-User
Very true . But we should all exercise proper etiquette , online as well as off . That’s just me though ☺️@Starchild1983
Starchild1983 · 41-45, F
@SW-User well I’m sure people do their best but sometimes things still pop up especially if your a parent lol
SW-User
For sure 👍️ Lol @Starchild1983

Acceptable...people have lives. They may get a phone call or be working. People can’t just sit for hours and talk.
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
My grandkids are often like that. They have kids to see to dishes to wash and dinners to burn etc. It's not a sign they're rude, they just get busy.
@ThePerfectUsername Dinners to burn??? Hahaha, doesn't seem like you have much faith in their cooking abilities!!! 🤣
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
Neither do the grandkids. They're every bit the McD generation whenever they have a choice. 😁 @HootyTheNightOwl

Life gets in the way... so unless its kinda exceptionally intense, it seems fine to me
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
I know some people perceive it as rude, but the reality is I have stuff to do. I’m not just sitting on here all day even if the window is open. I’ve actually stopped using my inbox for the most part because the need for constant, rapid response gets overwhelming.
FORMERLYbatovn · 56-60, M
Patience is key. We really never know what others lives are consisting of. All in all we take what we can get with friendships on a social site
SW-User
ON here it is ok - that is life and text is an asynchronous form of communication - ie you send the text but you can't expect an immediate response.
hlpflwthat · M
If I feel like I'm 'chatting' I take time to use the same manners I'd use face to face. I rarely feel like that here. But were you my acquaintance and I saw this post, I'd afford you the effort to say 'I gotta run' in the future.

You and I grew up without a need to distinguish chat, messaging, and email ... and texting ... and messengers. With regard to what is 'rude' I guess we gotta defer to those who develop & inhabit these new places most often.
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
Acceptable..just dont totally ignore me going forward or we could be done
Phire1 · 51-55, F
@PTCdresser57 Were you on AOL?
jaymic64 · M
Sometimes people just get busy. No harm
Depends on the last message you sent them.
SW-User
People have to get things done in their life so they can't always answer messages right away unless they're a coach potato that doesn't do anything.
Laughoften · M
I always like to tell the person if I don't respond right away I am not ignoring them, just working or getting things done
Allabouttaboo · 36-40, M
God!! I hate when people do that.
Happens a lot...

N they just don't care to inform or take time out. They r just gone. Pooof
SW-User
Well if they apologize upon returning , with an explanation, that’s fine . ☺️
Hoodski · 36-40, M
Eh I don’t read into too much. Of course I haven’t had much conversation on here lately
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
It is a bit annoying, but also understandable.
People have other things going on, it is ok.

Yep, but they could be doing food, or someone may have called, at least say “I’ve got to go for a while”
