Wondering if....?

Wondering if u receive mail for someone who used to live at ur address, can u just score out the address, write their new address & put back in postbox without adding more postage?

Yes you can but only if it is first class mail and all barcodes are marked out on the mail piece.

@swirlie I work for the postal service and in my area of the US, if the mail piece needs forwarded to a new address because the addressee has moved, barcodes are marked out and the new address replaces the old address. So the machine will now read the new address and forward accordingly. Barcodes can only be obliterated by a grease pencil so the machine will not read it.

If a change of address is submitted, the postal service forwards your mail to you for a 12 month period. After 12 months, we return the mail piece advising the sender of the correct address asking them to make the correction within their database.

@swirlie previous owner sounds 'polite' haha yea I have asked him to drop by b4 to pick it up, my brother was at the property but he was quite rude to my brother, there wasn't any need to be rude! Have another set of mail now, yea tempted to put it into an envelope & drop it by him work... it is on my way to my work but I run the risk of seeing him but still cheaper:)
