I worked rotating days/nights doing 12 hour shifts, for over ten years. Like most people, I just got on with it while bringing up a family, paying a mortgage..........
When I finally changed jobs and changed to working days (still 12 hour shifts, but no nights), I realised that it is not normal to spend your life permanently feeling like death warmed up.

I know guys who have worked nights for thirty years and they all look like Nosferatu the Vampyre.

I love and live for day shift!!!
calicuz · 51-55, M
@LilPrincess

Wait till you're a little older and staying up late gets a little harder. You'll love day shift then.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@calicuz im already for a nap as soon as i get in lol
calicuz · 51-55, M
@LilPrincess

Same. 🤣

I worked both throughout, on and off, and I rather day shift so I could make the mess night shift had to clean up. 🤭 🤣

@LilPrincess That makes all the difference in the world, a good workplace. 🙂
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@SW-User yes they pay well just a lot of drama but you have that in every distribution center
SW-User
@LilPrincess I would thing so, lol 🙂
turbineman40 · 80-89, M
I have worked many 7pm to 7am shifts. Your picture is so correct. Night shift never does anything especially do any work
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@turbineman40 where i work our night shift doesn't care about overtime on days they are looking for ways to get the heck out of dodge
turbineman40 · 80-89, M
@LilPrincess My out job pays overtime after eight hours every day. No 40 hours having to be worked first.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@turbineman40 my previous job was like that. My current job after 40 overtime pay starts.
Ontheroad · M
I've worked both days and nights and even a 4 to noon shift... it was the best of all of them.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Ontheroad I would love 4a to noon. Think i am getting 9a to 730p
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Hated nights packed a very well paid nights job in for a days regular job going from £200 a week to £40 back in late 70s !! Couldn’t sleep in day or eat in night
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Barny52 I am not one to sleep past 8a
Confined · 56-60, M
I have DSPS. So i work nights. We spend a lot of time some nights cleaning up the mess days left for us. I like the people i work with.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Confined its good that like the people you work with. I enjoy working with the night shift folks its the day shift people not so much
In my life I worked every shift imaginable to mankind including 8 on 8 off 8 on shifts.

I preferred to work days. At least you have some semblance of normalcy.

I think the worst was actually 2nd shift. Because it takes several hours to wind down after your shift and so 2nd shift really screws up the old biological clock. Seems like you are always tired.
Amor69Fati · 51-55, M
Depends on the job and the people i am working with...
Repete · 61-69, M
Most of my jobs working for someone else I worked the night shift . For extra money or working just for myself I worked the daylight to whenever shift made much more money with the early days as long as the tides was good.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Repete What did you do that required good tides?
Repete · 61-69, M
I dig clams in Maine . I actually like being there on the beach. Best or biggest tides are early morning on either new or full moon. I also have some lobster traps .@LilPrincess
icedsky · 51-55, M

AIm blessed enough to see both sides. Both day shifts and night shifts the same week.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@icedsky I work remotely in the morning and in the office at 1130. Sometimes i don't leave until 2a. I think the hardest part is leaving night shift is missing the people
Firegod74 · 46-50, M
I always liked nightshift. I feel it makes a better bond with co-workers. And less management is nice too.
cd4259 · 61-69, M
I still work both, dawn fill at a supermarket & a day job as a cleaner. Cleaning up other peoples shit either way :) ;)
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
Overnight shift stinks, mainly because your sleep cycle gets messed up on days off, it's not conducive to good health.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@therighttothink50 I have had a few days where I worked all three in the same day
Iwillwait · M
I am working both, not sure that the earlier shift pays more, it's all the same job.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Iwillwait sometimes i do. I have a full time career with over a 1000 demanding people and on the weekends for fun I shop and deliver groceries.
Iwillwait · M
@LilPrincess I bet the instacart is fun.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Iwillwait oh it is. I stared out in 2020 at the start of the pandemic to make some extra money. Then each week I stared getting repeat customers.

I still see some from time to time.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I worked nights for about a year in 2021. I liked it at first, but having my schedule messed up all the time took its toll on me by the end
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@DDonde I understand. I had a lot of 19 hour days last year. Now i only sleep from 3a to 8a.
DDonde · 31-35, M
@LilPrincess I wouldn’t be able to sleep for only five hours consistently. More power to you
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@DDonde not recommended by no means
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
I’ve done both. I prefer working days..
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@AthrillatheHunt Difficult because i haven't been on days in over 4 years. Most of my life i have been on nights
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@LilPrincess that’s gunna take some getting used to for sure .
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@AthrillatheHunt lots of coffee and a sign that says out of order till noon lol
Days and no weekends… I need my sports daily lol
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@GBPackersFan I watch my games at work
Lucky you!! You have the best of both worlds lol… gearing up for the NFL playoffs again this weekend ❤️🏈@LilPrincess
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@GBPackersFan plan on watching the cowboys kick some 49s arse on Sunday. Missed the Buccs game due to a meeting
