I've had this idea for a long time: a total deprivation chamber.

A pod filled with water that is exactly body temperature, an apparatus that keeps you in the exact center such that you do not float to the top but that is designed in such a way that you barely feel it on your body, a breathing apparatus that is designed in the same way; such that you can barely tell it is there.

No light, no sound, no sensation, nothing at all. As close to absolute 0 outside stimulation as possible.

You would need spotters to let you out just in case something goes wrong, of course, but such an experience would be very interesting.

I wonder what one would experience after an hour or two inside. What kind of meditative heights could one achieve in such a state?

You can experience this in flotation tanks.
They're offered in many places. I've made use of them.

@PhoenixPhail hmm, I'll have to give this a try one day
@SW-User I think you may enjoy the experience.

By the way.... The people operating the facility may tell you that whilst you're in the flotation tank, you're weightless. That's not true. You're buoyant. There's a significant difference.

This is what I'm worried about.

I doubt that these chambers are going for what I'm looking for... a chamber that is designed to negate/mitigate any and all outside force/sensation on the body.

They have those.

I'd never use one, it would freak me completely out. I don't like to be alone with my own mind.
@DearAmbellina2113 Yes, I think many people could have that reaction.
SW-User
@DearAmbellina2113 im the opposite; the inner world fascinates me.

I believe that somewhere inside us is the "portal" that our very existence originated from.

And i wonder if we can see into it.

We have instruments galore that expand our senses such that we can see far far far outside ourselves.

But what instruments could be crafted that would allow us to see nothing but what is deep within?

look it up. you know these things already exist. You would just have to be careful because you could hallucinate
SW-User
@DeluxedEdition hallucination would be the point id imagine 🤔.

To deny the outer so that you have no choice but to explore the inner such that one would never be able to in normal circumstances.

@SW-User nooooooooooooooooooooooo😂 when ur meditating you want to be mindful. That's the point. To be still so that you can get better clearer understanding. hallucinating happens because you can't differentiate between the sleep and wake states.
SW-User
@DeluxedEdition i think there are different forms of meditation with different goals in mind...
That is an actual thing lmao
@PepsiColaP Oh, yeah. It's been around for years.

SW-User
@PepsiColaP actually according to my research and this post, no, no its not.

Those pools aren't at the level of deprivation i have described.

Still a lot of sensation. Bobbing, water noises, and hell that one has a light in it.
They are already a thing .
I think they contain high salt saturated water so you float easily, (but i could be wrong).

Today they are used for relaxation.
Years ago in war time they were used as a form of torture .

I suppose its all about how long you stay in there, and what your preferable level of solitude is .🤷‍♀️
@PhoenixPhail that is what ive read. Id love to trt it sometime.
I quite like my silence sometimes .

And i find meditation a tad annoying 😂 i can't seem to do it . All i do i notice everything even more .🤦‍♀️
@OogieBoogie It's natural to notice everything more when first beginning meditation. But if you stay with it, and can find that "sweet spot," after a while things will settle down. Don't be afraid to let go, if for only 15 or 20 minutes, knowing you'll be free to notice anything you want after that. It's a process which takes some practice. And one which, I think, is well worth the effort. I think you'll eventually find it very relaxing. 🙏
@PhoenixPhail 😂🤣😂
Ive been trying for years !

And its never settled down. My mind just seems to get hyper busy.

Im better with background noise like asmr.
But even then, a this 'relaxation' and 'peace of mind' stuff people mention - i just dont seem to get. My mind ends up like a play list set on random 😂
As long as one can get out when need be…

If you keep someone in an entirely white room and give them only white food on a white plate ans make them wear only white, in just a few hours they will start hallucinating so their mind has something to think about. After a few days they go crazy
SW-User
@pianoplayingsteve white rooms and plates are still stimulation though.

What i want to know is what happens if someone is voluntarily deprived of any and all sensation such that they are effectively a brain floating in a vacuum.
