Hmmm. Listening to it with a glass of bourbon seems like a perfect pairing. I watched an interview of him a couple of days ago that was posted on YouTube about the difference between him and Elvis. He said Elvis kept everything inside and brooded about it, got depressed, and then would call and want him to come talk him through it, whereas he just let it out and lived. He then proceeded to describe the time he was arrested outside Graceland with a gun on the dashboard of his car. Seems he had been partying, drinking champagne ("and champagne was never a friend of mine"), and decided he better heed one of Elvis's calls. Someone said, "before you go I have a gift for you" and gave him a brand-new .38, never fired. He went to put in the glove compartment but the guy said, no, put it on the dashboard where it is open carry and legal; inside the glove box is illegal without a permit. So he describes driving down to Memphis, pulling up at the gate to Graceland, the security guard coming out to inquire his purpose in being there, seeing the gun on the dashboard, freaks and calls the cops. At which point he freaks, not because of the gun but because he still has a half open bottle of champagne that he has been taking swigs out of. It is one of the first cars with power windows, he pushes a button thinking he is opening the window but apparently opening the trunk instead, because when he heaves the bottle out the window it hits and shatters the glass just as the cops drive up. The YouTube post had his mug shots. The wife-beater shirt didn't help, I suspect.

@dancingtongue Man was pure rockabilly in the flesh.

@MethDozer YouTube also has the Original Million Dollar Quartet recording and still photos, speaking of Rockabilly. Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash. Perkins had a recording session that day at Sun Records, which had just signed Jerry Lee and was there ironing out details. Cash was still with Sun, and happened by for something else. Elvis had moved on to RCA by then, but was in town and stopped by to visit. They sang their common denominator -- old gospel tunes. With Elvis on piano! Perkins on guitar. Jerry Lee and Cash vocal back-up.
