When did it become a thing to jiggle your body around to sounds and music ? Why is it fun to watch people jiggling around to music ? How do young children and babies learn to dance ?
The 1893 edition of "The Methodist Armor," a guide for young Methodists in the South had this quote in the section against dancing: "It requires neither brains nor good morals to be a good dancer. ... A New York paper says: 'Three-fourths of the abandoned girls of this city were ruined by dancing.'" There you go. How can you argue with that reasoning from 1893?
@Scarfface They were against a lot of things that are considered totally innocent today. The book was given to my grandmother, but I'm not sure how strictly she followed the guidelines.
In some cultures, it’s just a part of life, along with the music. Seeing my parents and other family members dancing together is among my earliest memories.
