Does your home make loud boom crack noises when it gets really cold outside?

Scary and annoying at 1am!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Only during earthquakes like today! 🤷‍♂️🙃

@DeWayfarer you had an earthquake!? What area are you from?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Alisha233 very minor one probably around 3.0

Live very near a major fault line The San Jacinto fault.
Oh yes, especially the cold. Windows too.
House does it in summer heat also.

All part of its charm.

But a tad unnerving at 3AM, when unexpected. Sounds like someone's given the corner of the house a powerful kick.

Yes, but it typically happens when the ghosts bring the cold with them
😳 you’re not a wee bit concerned it does that?
Alisha233 · 31-35, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout lol it happens alot when the temps drop below -10°f the walls made of wood contract as cold temps shrink them...Im guessing.

We used to hear these loud muffled thumps at night. We couldn’t figure it out until we heard one during the day and discovered it was a bird flying smack into a closed window.

Sometimes the collisions were fatal for the birds but the woods surrounding the house housed a lot of scavengers so the bodies disappeared.

My house makes some weird noises, knocks and bumps and such. Sometimes I wonder if someone is in the house or that it's going to fall down 😧

Could be the sound of outside concrete rising due to freezing ground expanding and rubbing against the foundation of your home or some other fixed item.
