If you ran a restaurant, would you encourage tipping or would institute a service charge? sales + x% of total= bill to be paid

i'd allow tipping but i'd also pay the staff enough so that they don't NEED those tips to live.

@Longpatrol ^ this

Pay the staff a decent wage is more appropriate
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@nedkelly a really good server at a popular restaurant can rake in the big tips.
Briggett · T
Your bill would be walking out the price. Cost+tip+tax= out the door cost. What sign says is what you pays

tipping is a silly concept... its like mini bribes
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@EvilEmma Started out that way, but now it is a way for restaurant owners to pass the major risk on to its service staff by paying inadequate wages and benefits so they have to count on tips for the major source of income.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@EvilEmma IF you're nice and polite..I may tip you

I would encourage tipping...and I would hope the wait staff would provide better service based on customer satisfaction.

I get angry when there is a "service charge". I am usually fuming, and saying things to myself like, "I just paid $15.00 for THAT sh!t service???"
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
Service charge. Most items on the menu will be priced at a low price but I’d charge based on how long they stayed there.
ExtremeNext · 31-35
I agree with Ned pay a decent wage and no tipping is needed have never tipped and never will

Nobody tips me at my job
HakunaMatata · 51-55, M
Tipping...it improves the quality of service, and it's upto the customer. I prefer that.
[c=359E00]i'll just overcharge the food 🤣[/c]

I would set up a thrift and offer benefits for staff.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@in10RjFox Make working for you a benefit
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Depends on the employee salaries
