Is there a word in the English language that bothers you?

Which word is it? I didn’t realise how many people hate the word “moist.” Now I’m a bit curious what other words people dislike.
Irregardless 😖 and it's actually in the dictionary!!😡 All of the double negative, made up words bug the crap out of me.
Also, when someone says, "eXpresso". There is NO X!! It's ESSpresso!!

@UnderLockDown Irregardless is one that really bothers my mom. I think people are learning how to pronounce espresso properly, I hear “expresso” less often now.

I despise the word 'wank.'
@BlueVeins noooooooo wank is such a great word, as is wanker

@InOtterWords Honestly i think it was soured to me by a weirdo from EP. I was an EP volunteer tasked with greeting new members, and there was this one person who had (I think) their genitals as their profile picture. And the only thing they'd say is, "do you wank". 🤮

“Unthaw” - since “thaw” means to go from a frozen state to not frozen, why does “unthaw” mean the same thing? Shouldn’t “unthaw” mean to freeze?
@AriaP have never heard unthaw

@InOtterWords Count your blessings, lol.

@LilMissAnonyMOUSE Yes! I agree.
Thanks 😄

I hate the word masturbation.. but forced to use it for its prevalence as if we only use the hand.

I would prefer it to be selfshag.. selfing. Selfie would have been great but unfortunately it's too late now.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@in10RjFox Haha, selfshag. 😂 You could make that catch on though. You can be an Urban Dictionary legend!
Inflammable

Sometimes it means "not flammable" and sometimes it means "easily inflamed." A dangerous word - avoid it!
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@ElwoodBlues I’ve never heard inflammable used to say something is not flammable (though in my head that would make sense). It’s annoying that flammable and inflammable mean the same thing. 🙄

@ElwoodBlues quite true, as while coining words they forget other words that could clash and cause a confusion.

English has many such inconsistencies.

Inflammable inflammation eyc. come from inflame .. while flame exists as another word.

Should it have been imflame like implosion ?

Usage of hubby/wifey I've always found quite annoying.

@SW-User HAHA! I am so happy that I didn’t have coffee in my mouth when I read that.

@WanderingThrough 🤣 Thank goodness....I'm not aiming for wasted coffee or coffee stained clothes.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@SW-User Thank you, I really do appreciate that!

I hate the nounification of verbs and vice versa.
Ex: That's a big ask
Ex: I gifted her a tugboat
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@daydeeo Who gives a tugboat as a gift?
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
All of them
