I Like a Good Quote

Interesting. From a book about Suleiman, Sultan and ruler of the Ottoman Empire in the 1500s - a song/nursery rhyme.
To hold a land you need armed men,

To keep armed men you share out property,

To have property you need a rich folk,

Only by laws can you make folk rich—

If one of these lacks, all four will lack,

Where all four lack, the land is lost.

Ottoman Empire in the 1500s
what a lazy empire
@MarmeeMarch That one took me a while...but I think you have it backwards...the ottoman stool got its name from the Empire, not the other way around.

An ottoman can also be called a tuffet...where Little Miss Muffet perched to eat her curds and whey.
@Mamapolo2016 poor little miss Muffet - no dinner table ? - only a tuffet ? and what about the spider ? sat down beside her - did the spider have a tuffet too ?
@MarmeeMarch No, Marmee, spiders have webs. And that one also had a tuffet after it frightened Miss Muffet away.
@Mamapolo2016 she lived in a filthy little hell hole -
@MarmeeMarch You know this because...?
@Mamapolo2016 she had spiders
@MarmeeMarch I'm not at all sure that the presence of one spider indicates appalling living conditions. The spider in question may have been traveling to visit relatives somewhere in the forest and, exhausted by the journey, just sat down beside Miss Muffet for a little break.
@Mamapolo2016 Very possible - he should have not come over empty hands-id though.
@MarmeeMarch Marmee. Spiders don't HAVE hands.
