If you don't utilize the IRS to determine how much money a person makes, then how are you going to efficiently know which seniors and which people on disability should be entitled to the money?
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
@Agent86 There are seniors that work (my two brothers) and those that don't (me, with a walker and bad knees)and are on disability. The government HAS all that they need.

I don't know anyone who receives ss that doesn't also file tax returns.

@HannahSky When I went on disability. the lawyer and CPA that did the family taxes told me it wasn't necessary. Since he knew his business, I didn't.

@MaryJanine yikes I hope that's true, good luck.

@MaryJanine FYI
Social Security beneficiaries won’t have to file tax returns in order to receive the coronavirus relief payments, the Trump administration announced Wednesday in a quick reversal of an earlier position. Huffington Post

The person who handled my taxes when I was a working girl told me outright if the only income I was getting was Social Security Disability, I didn't NEED to file.

@MaryJanine Was this person an accountant?
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
@Agent86 Yes she is/was, A certified CPA and lawyer. Carolyn knew her business.

I heard directly on the newscast last night with my own ears - people getting paid by Social Security Disability will not need to fill out any more tax forms of any kind to file. The government decided they had enough information to submit these individual's checks without further paperwork.

Sounds like the problem already took care of itself.
