Take it back right away

Yamaha stands for excellent, durable quality. I'm sure that thing can be opened and repaired easily. You might have to exchange filament lamps which are used to illuminate the scale.

The power button doesn't work....and they claim they "tested: it. Riiiiight.....they scour thrift stores for this stuff and flip it.
@uncalled4
Nah..
This is a local shop, been around for decades.. they buy stuff from customers and send it out to be serviced.. it's not thier fault that the service guy didn't do his job.

@Onestarlitnight I'll defer to you, but that just sounds shady.

There's bound to be someone in your area good with electronic repairs that can fix that for you
TexChik · F
@Onestarlitnight You paid $1000 for an old radioshack receiver? Those were $300 new.

Another stereo? So you are looking for antique analog electronics
@TexChik
It was top of the line for 599 new in 1980
TexChik · F
@Onestarlitnight I inherited a big stereo when I was 12, I liked watching all the needles move and the amplifier light up.

@Onestarlitnight are you paying $1000 for that Realistic tuner?
@SW-User
800.. it was 600 new in 1980..
They're bringing 800, to 1500 now

And Yamaha's are always usually so reliable. I've had one for over 30 years.
@ReneeT
Yup.. I was happy to find it..
It's a good brand.

I'd really like a Marantz or pioneer..
But those are hard to find
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
I have an old Dynaco amp and tuner...so vintage...1970 I think.
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@Midlifemale I had to have it fixed a few years ago. I know this guy who repairs old vintage stereo receivers and amps
That's a shame. Can you return it?
@PepsiColaP
I took it back and I'm trading it for the high end untit.. they gave me a great deal but it also needs some service.
I had them hook it up and it has a couple of minor issues wich they are going to have repaired .

@Onestarlitnight awesome,I'm so happy they did that for you
@PepsiColaP
I'm not going to have it for a couple of weeks while it's being serviced but I'm happy with it.
It's the absolute top of the line back in 1980.. the most powerful and advanced receiver that they ever produced.
