Well when you have millions of voters, you're going to have millions of reasons.
Personally, I look at the bigger picture and see how all over the world, incumbent parties and politicians have been losing elections and seats in the aftermath of COVID at historic rates. Something like 4 out of 5 democratic elections held since 2021 have seen the incumbent lose power, which has never been seen before.
Economies all over the world have been plagued with inflation. People have experienced a lot more social isolation. Internet misinformation was rampant. It seems to me that there is just so much negative human emotions spiraling into hopelessness and people were desperate for change.
I think people are trying to make it more ideological than it really is, because his opponent got almost the same amount of votes, only off by 1.5%. I'd say that it's more realistic that the majority of people were hoping Trump could do something to curb high gas and grocery prices.
