There's a knee jerk reaction by some to protect Israel at all costs. And I don't get it. What seems clear to me, and this is generally speaking, is that Israeli's, and Jews in general, will never not take advantage of something they can be deemed antisemitic. They never met a grievance they didn't like. Without enemies I don't see Israel continuing to exist. Whether those enemies are external or, as it is right now, internal.

But what's happened is even bringing up the idea that Israel is a corrupt, twisted nation means, in their eyes, that Jews are hated. That's just so wrong and plays in to their Us vs. Them agenda. More than half of our military assistance budget goes to Israel. Billions that they could pay on their own. And a lot of that money is going to destroy innocent Palestinians. Whatever it takes to keep the concept of "enemies" going.

@Ynotisay Note that the Scholar in question, is Jewish. Prior to the Taliban'isation of Israel, thanks to the Netanyahu, Trump and US/Canadian Evangelicals', this was not the case. Now, the Orthodox control the narrative, and they're pushing it, through US and Canadian "donors", through the US and Canada.

The article is also very specific: segments of the Israeli public, is also subjected to the same accusations, just as MAGAs subject the rest of us to accusations of treason.

Technically, I am Jewish, because my mother is Jewish, but I don't shy away from using the term on SW, and I've gotten the same knee-jerk reaction from other SW Jewish members, including those who are otherwise reasonable.

Some people want to keep Israel in a state of paranoia, for as long as it takes to keep themselves in office, and to make sure their Orthodox narrative prevails, but enough people are tired of living in a 24/7 state of fear, ready to jump into military action, up until they're ready to retire, and even then, it's no guarantee. Nothing like relaxing on the beach, with your Galil rifle next to you.

There's so much you can blame on the "Ayrabs", before you start looking inward for acceptable compromises.

@Northwest Thanks for that. And for the confirmation. I just can't wrap my head around it at times. When I lived in L.A. it was in an almost exclusively Jewish neighborhood. Most all Orthodox. So many synagogues and most were Israeli transplants. It was a great place and I have to hand to the Jewish landlord who rented to me. In hindsight I think he was trying to make an effort. Or maybe a statement. Didn't even cross my mind that I should care about the makeup of the neighborhood.
On an individual basis I never had an issue with anyone. That is, at least with those who would even look at me. I learned very quickly that I was an outsider. It was bizarre given that I'd always lived around a lot of diversity. Persona-non-gratis. Invisible. It made no sense to me but I could feel that it was something ingrained. Didn't like it. Just seemed pointless. But it was what it was and sort of helped me understand a little more about why things are like they are.
But I'll never forget the very old and frail woman who left next door. Didn't speak a lick of English and I would help her with whatever she needed. We communicated in a pretty cool way. And she'd always grab my face after I helped her with real compassion in her eyes. That stuck with me. It's about the people. Not the group.

Why don’t we just disband the state of Israel and send the Jews back to Europe where they mostly came from ?
Europe would be cool w that right ?

@MalteseFalconPunch Which wasn't the case. Israel's practices, specifically in the Occupied Territories, meet the definition of apartheid.

Criticizing the democratically elected government of Israel doesn’t mean someone hates Jews .
I’m not Jewish but I lived in Israel. People love to criticize others without walking a mile in their shoes .
