Was Twitter shut down to stop the flow of information?

Can the flow of information be more easily controlled without Twitter? On Nov. 10/22 Marco Rubio and Mike Galliger wrote an op ed in the Washington Post saying TikTok should be banned in the US. News is no longer on the SW homepage. Has it become a goal of worldwide oligarchs to shut down free and easy access to information.

The banning calls around TikTok were due to its Chinese ownership. And there's legitimate cause for concern. It was reported recently that U.S. user data is being accessed by the Chinese. Privacy and propaganda are big issues. Especially seeing how social media has been weaponized by governments and organizations around the world. And as far as free and easy access to information I think that's pretty well covered. Legitimate news organizations are on that one. Not sure about you but I don't see social media as being about information as much as it is "look at me" and disinformation.
