Stop n' frisk, mandatory death, outskirt zones...

In his speech, Trump painted a picture of America in decay, describing in gruesome detail crimes in cities across the country. He called for hiring more police officers, bringing back controversial “stop and frisk” policies and giving drug dealers the death penalty. Police squad cars to be parked on every corner. Qualified immunity so law enforcement does not fear repercussions.

“The penalties should be very, very severe. If you look at countries throughout the world, the ones that don’t have a drug problem are ones that institute a very quick trial death penalty sentence for drug dealers,” Trump said at the America First Policy Institute.

“It sounds horrible, doesn’t it? But you know what? That’s the ones that don’t have any problem. It doesn’t take 15 years in court. It goes quickly, and you absolutely — you execute a drug dealer, and you’ll save 500 lives,” Trump continued.

“It’s terrible to say, but you take a look at every country in this world that doesn’t have a problem with drugs, they have a very strong death penalty for people that sell drugs,” he said. “and be tough and be nasty and be mean if we have to.”

“We’re living in such a different country for one primary reason: There is no longer respect for the law, and there certainly is no order. Our country is now a cesspool of crime,” Trump said [unironically]
.

This after text exchange between two former Trump campaign aides who expressed frustration that Trump did not recognize Brian Sicknick, a Capitol police officer who died during the melee.

Incidentally, top countries with existing death penalties for drug trafficking:
United States (The sole Western nation)
China
Indonesia
Malaysia
Saudi Arabia
Democratic Republic of Congo
Bahrain
Singapore
Vietnam
Qatar
India
Sri Lanka

In countries where the penalty in enforced (never for selling a street-level quantity of drugs), research has shown there to be no appreciable difference in the crime rate which, yawn, we've known for more that 40 years.

Trump is a prime example of America in decay.
Trump is the main reason America is in decay.

@independentone You had your say now get back under your rock.

@Strictgram The high road is enlightened, yes. Better information is armor and weapon both here. A less abrasive approach that often lands like a broadside hit is better. A person equipped with the data necessary to support his argument is a confident and formidable adversary who spends little time in the mud. And a person unwilling to re-examine their stand in light of absent or disagreeing evidence will never see their world expand at all.

Just the dealers and not the users…doesn’t want to end up executing Don Jr, eh?
@Zaphod42 Thank you.
@Zaphod42 Unless Don Jr. turns out to be the rat.

I wonder whether D.T. recommends death penalty for the vendors of OxyContin.
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@helenS that is so true and such a serious truth
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@helenS thank you for saying that. Big Pharma has ruined millions of lives of people who normally would not have been addicted to drugs.

I think all drugs should be legal. I would have little problem with 55-gal drums of crack, fentanyl and meth on random street corners. In six months we clean up all the bodies, remove the drums and the drug problem is solved.

Fuck ‘em all. If your respect for your own body and it’s health is so low that you want to willingly poison it, don’t expect me to pay a penny to stop you. We’ve tried for decades and it doesn’t have an upside.

This silly war on drugs just corrupts the police, expands the state and funds the cartels. That’s three strikes.

@LeopoldBloom anytime a lefttard can’t counter a logical argument they trot out a claim of racism or false equivalency.

He's entirely impotent. He's just throwing shit out to stupid white people that they want to hear. He knows the hooks are in too deep for them question the "law and order" horseshit. Duterte got elected in the Philippines with the same rage against drug dealers. Countless innocent people were killed. It's a dictator move. Interestingly enough, it's "his people" who drove the oxy train. "His people" are dying from fentanyl. But they see it as going after the 'blacks and browns' who they blame for everything. What's tough about this stuff is that even if he were to run, which I don't think there's a chance in hell will happen, he's going to continue throwing gas on a fire.
He’s right! We have a big problem with former presidents stealing top secret government documents! This crime must be punished severely! Glad Trump and I finally agree on something!
Wonder how many drugs he has sold then.
Carla · 61-69, F
@canusernamebemyusername he doent personally sell them. He just launders money for the russian mafia dudes that do.

What about fixing social and societal issues that lead to unhappiness, alienation and poverty those cause people to commit more crimes?

You guys have a very low minimum wage and a fucked up health care system and cops do not get as well trained as here in Europe.

🤔by stop and search do you mean random ones . then what about civility liberties being randomly stopped . ethnic minorities then saying this is racial harrassment as they have no reason to search them apart because of the colour of the skin.surely there has too be just course for stop and such and how much success does it have and go on to get convictions 🤷‍♂️ [graylight]
Graylight · 51-55, F
@smiler2012 Stop and search laws exist for the same reason petty traffic infraction exist. They act as a precursor to a more extensive search and background on someone.

A black man walking down the street at night is FAR more likely to be detained and searched than am I, a fair woman. That means more minorities tend to be the subject of random searches for any possible infractions or warrants, which leads to greater legal trouble for minorities. That is not equality under the watch of the US Constitution, which ahs an amendment to protect against such unwarranted searches.

Police and other authorities absolutely have the right to secure a suspect for everyone's safety. But it needs to be done with prudence, equality and for the right reasons.
@Graylight And Trump is totally aware that police departments heavily profile blacks and Hispanics. As president he urged the police not to “coddle” suspects; that is, observe their fourth Amendment rights, although today he’s certainly whining about the protection of his own.

This is what you do all day?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Diotrephes Actual criminal trials can take three years to come to a courtroom. The wheels of justice move deliberately. Just because we're all growing up on instant gratification without bounds, that's not how higher echelons operate.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Graylight You can bet that if you were in a similar situation you would have been busted and thrown in jail until you got your arraignment hearing. So, if the feds have evidence of various crimes they need to get off of their asses and arrest the orange traitor or commit public suicide for being liars. If trump gets off no one should ever be convicted of another crime in America.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Diotrephes There's no trial yet. No formal charges. No case. Give it time, Lowenstein; give it time.
