Points of no return

Rainwater almost everywhere on Earth has unsafe levels of ‘forever chemicals’, according to new research.

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large family of human-made chemicals that don’t occur in nature. They are known as ‘forever chemicals’ because they don’t break down in the environment.

They have non-stick or stain repellent properties so can be found in household items like food packaging, electronics, cosmetics and cookware.

But now researchers at the University of Stockholm have found them in rainwater in most locations on the planet - including Antarctica. There is no safe space to escape them.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), linked to cancer, are pervading homes and environments.
PFAS levels across the planet are unsafe, and the substances must be restricted, researchers say.

@markansas yeah but try getting people to get rid of the darn stuff....

I really don't see people willing to do so. The packaging alone they don't want to. Which are filling up the oceans as we speak.

Yes PFAS are now routinely checked and detected in European drinking water as well. The concentration is very very low though, which is why you need the most modern detection methods to find them.
What's more disturbing is the high level of POPs (persistent organic pollutants) such as DDT everywhere, even in penguin liver. POPs accumulate through the food chain. 😐

Those responsible for these chemicals have known of the danger for a very long time.
But hey, who wants to give up gortex and teflon?
I threw out my teflon pans ages ago.
Not that the stuff isn't literally everywhere else.

Well AOC said the world will end in 2031. 🤣

@ron122 No. What she said was she and other young Americans fear "the world is going to end in 12 years if we don't address climate change."

And she may very well be right.
